Pantheon Mondays: Bries


Bries (Breece)    

Greater Elemental Goddess (Earth)

Portfolio: Mithril, mining and the High Elven culture
Major Spheres: Charm, Combat, Creation, Divination, Guardian, Law, Necromantic
Minor Spheres: Divination, Elemental, Healing, Protection, War
Requirements for Specialty Priests: STR:15  WIS:13 DEX 12; LG, LN, NG or CG alignment
Specialty Priest Weapons: Longsword, shortsword, Longbow, Shortbow (not composite) with flight arrows only.  Dart, Dirk, Flail, staff, Whip
Armor Allowed: Leather, studded leather, elven chain
Races Allowed: Elves, Half-elves, Humans (rarely)
Proficiencies: (Required) Mining, Smelting (Bonus) Weaponsmithing, Armorer
Granted Powers:
·         Turn Undead
·         Can create Elven Chain, but this requires a special forge, Mithril, Silver and several rare and expensive gems expended in the creation
·         May specialize in one of the following: bow, longsword or shortsword. Uses Fighter THAC0 for this weapon
·         At 3rd Level, the character gains the ability to create +1 Elven chain
·         8th Level: Detect iron/Mithril/Adamantite and steel 30ft/ once a day
·         10th level: make Elven Chain +2 (as above)
·         15th level: make elven chain +3
·         20th level:    "                        +4
·         25th level:      "                      +5
Signature Spells: The following spells are cast as if two levels higher and do an additional +1 of damage per die when cast by priests of Bries: Fire Arrow, Charged Arrow, Power Strike Arrow, Poison Arrow, Cold Arrow, Caustic Arrow, Exploding Arrow, Guided Arrow, Impaler Arrow, Plague Arrow, Lightning Strike Arrow.  The spell Garments of Elvenkind may be cast by any cleric of Bries regardless of their race, the spell Detect Metals and Minerals is cast as if 5 level higher. Priests of Bries can cast Shatter Metal as if they were dwarven clerics, even though they aren’t dwarves.
Specialty Priests of Bries call themselves the shining folk they wear Elven Chain and carry Mithril long swords. It is a highly structured religion with rank denoted by the color of the gem  on their holy symbol. The holy symbol of Bries is a small stylized statue of a woman with her arms bare except for dual armbands and raised above her head, holding a gem that represents the rank of the priest (the hands are holding an opal for secular wear. Bries also has elven paladins, who are just like human paladins.
Relationships with Other Priesthoods: The priests of Bries only tend to have problems with other religions along strict alignment lines.

Minor Spheres: Divination, Elemental, Protection, Time
Requirements for Specialty Priests: STR:15, WIS:13, LG or CG alignment
Specialty Priest Weapons: Swords, rarely Daggers
Armor Allowed: Any metal any shields
Races Allowed: Dwarves, Halflings, Half-Elves, Humans, (Elves worship her as Goddess of poetry only and are never Specialty Priests.)
Proficiencies: (Required) Religion (Bonus) Weaponsmithing, Sanctify, Artistic Ability: Poetry, Poetry
Granted Powers:
·         Turn Undead
·         Heal with iron: 1/10 lb. worth of iron is consumed per HP healed, up to a total of 20 hp/level, once a day 
·         At 3rd Level, the character gains the proficiency: "Armorer"
·         8th Level: Detect iron/Mithril/Adamantite and steel 30ft/ once a day
·         18th level: Create iron from earth 1 lb./level.
Signature Spells: Imbue Weapon with +1-+5 (25% chance of an additional +, so +1 can be +2, etc.), Imbue Weapon or item spells (all) are cast with an additional +20% chance of permanency. Permanency Prayer/Ritual of Permanency-18 in 20,instead of 12 in 20 chance.
Specialty Priests of Bried call themselves folk of the sword, they wear Iron and steel proudly and teach the secrets of smithing to all cultures with which they agree. It is a non-structured religion. The holy relic of Bried is a coin, with a forge on one side and a pen on the other. The Holy Symbol of Bried is a crossed sword and pen. Bried also has paladins, who have access to all the spheres specialty priests of Bried have instead of merely access to the combat, divination, healing, and protective spheres as other paladins have.  
Relationships with Other Priesthoods: The priests of Bried only tend to have problems with other religions along strict alignment lines

Pantheon Mondays: Bel


Bel

(The Double Sided)

Portfolio: War, combat, arms and armor, siege machines, etc.
Major Spheres: Astral, Combat, Creation, Guardian, Healing,  Law, Protection 
Minor Spheres: Divination, Elemental, Necromantic, War, Wards
Requirements for Specialty Priests: Strength 12, Constitution 9, Wisdom 13, Charisma 17, Lawful Good or Lawful Evil Alignment
Specialty Priest Weapons: As Paladin, with a focus on swords
Armor Allowed: As Paladin, with a tendency towards plate mail and higher
Races Allowed: Humans, Dwarves
Proficiencies: As Paladin
Granted Powers: As Paladin, plus ability to take spells from the Major and Minor spheres above, instead of the default Paladin ones.
Signature Spells: Sparkling Sword, Shadow Sword and Blazing Sword (2X duration), Doublecoin (Additional +2 to save)
Specialty Priests of Bel  are Paladins, and the rarer Order of the Blackened Blade, which are Lawful Evil Clerics with all the abilities and THAC0s of Fighters, (and the same minimum attributes as Paladins) plus immunity to poisons and the ability to create poison (0/25) once a week/per two levels, as well as wield unholy weapons.  There is dispute as to whether Bel is one God, Bel the Double sided, or Two, Bel the Dark and Bel the Light. Followers of both wear highly polished plate armor, it is a very structured religion, with military-like rank. Both humans and Dwarves can be Paladins of Bel or Order of the blackened Blade. Priests of Bel turn undead as one level higher paladins. Both believe the other are an important order that needs to exist.  The holy symbols of Bel are an Anvil with a sword driven through it or a disc with symbols representing night and day.
Relationships with Other Priesthoods: Because Bel’s followers are sometimes LE, his followers get in trouble amongst each other, and with other Paladin-having gods.

Pantheon Mondays: Ardentia, Azclepios and Basth


Ardentia

Lady of Arden Vale (demigod)

Priests of Ardentia Clerics of Ardentia are regular Clerics, she also has Paladins. Both call themselves The Ardent, they wear green robes (or a tabard over armor) with their city's coat of arms, a green heraldric acer (maple) on a blue field.
Relationships with Other Priesthoods: The Ardent are a civic faith, the official state religion of the monoarchy of Arden Vale. This means that the priesthood gets many benefits that others lack, such as large state-sponsored temples and holy days as civic holidays. While the Ardent get along with other LG faiths, their special position as a civic religion creates rivalries and jealousy within Arden Vale.

 

 

Azclepios

Greater God of Medicine                                    
 Lawful Neutral
Portfolio: Non-Magical Healing.
Followers of Azclepios call themselves Doctors and wear white overcoats. Azclepios preaches medical healing and his followers cast no spells, but are otherwise clerics, with a full working knowledge of medicine and a 90% chance of curing anything by investigation. The Symbol of Azclepios is a snake.
Relationships with Other Priesthoods: The Doctors do not get along well with any priesthoods.




Basth           

Bastet, Bast, Basteth

Lesser Goddess of Animals

Portfolio: Felines, Wisdom
Major Spheres: Animal, Charm, Divination, Healing, Necromantic, Summoning, Wards, Weather.
Minor Spheres: Combat, Elemental, Plant, Protection, Travelers
Requirements for Specialty Priests: DEX:17  WIS:13, Neutral Alignment
Specialty Priest Weapons: Any Slashing
Armor Allowed: None
Races Allowed: Elves, Half-Elves, Halflings, Human, Were-felines except Were-Lynxes, Zandar
Proficiencies: (Bonus) Animal Handling: Felines (all)
Granted Powers:
·         Turn Undead, Can cast Know Alignment once/day. 
·         Low light vision, as a Zandar
·         At 3rd Level, the character can shapeshift into a cat at Will (not lions, etc., just cats.)
·         8th Level: Pride of Nobanion 1/day
·         18th level: Automatically return from dead, fully healed, once per level, a maximum of nine times
Signature Spells:  Lionheart (affects 2X number of targets, for twice as long.), ProtomĂȘ (when using great cat, only, no risk of negative side effects.),  Animal Transfer (cats have no saving throw),  Beast Claw (Spell instead provides retractable claws, same bonus to damage, however.) Doomhound (creature is a giant cat.), Feline Form  (2X duration.)
Specialty Priests of Basth call themselves Basheti, they wear gold collar-like jewelry, it is a loosely structured religion, with an elected priestess at the head of each temple. The holy symbol of Basth is a cat.
Relationships with Other Priesthoods: Basheti are usually neutral about other gods.
